A two thirds full room was present on this rainy Friday night for the regular comedy club, bringing decent comedians, working the circuit, to Portsmouth’s Wedgewood Rooms. CompĂ©re Dinga expressed his bemusemant at the start, given that “we had three headline acts for you tonight, this room should be full”. We’ll see. Jason Manford was at The Guildhall this evening, so this may go some way to an explanation….

Opener, Terry Alderton, brought a whirlwind of frenetic energy to the stage ahead of having to rush to Bournemouth later that evening (a fact he illustrates with the generic facial expression for dumb locals… Portsmouth included). Alderton’s “style” is theatrical – swerving between the sublime and ridiculous. He plays with the audience brilliantly, toying them with impressions, of both people and military vehicles, in between his own crazed observations, his inner monologue narrating the whole set. It’s an impressive and hilarious start to the night and possessing the ability to argue with yourself scores some Brownie points. (Imagine Buy suprax Gollum as a stan- up and you get Terry)

Final act Jim Tavere describes his job tonight as to “dry the audience out”, as opposed to comedians that talk about sex to get the audience moist. He appears on stage and announces “The Hills Have Eyes: The Musical” Dressed in a tuxedo with a double-bass, he’s an imposing spectacle, but, strikes me as a rather retiring figure, with his bone-dry, deadpan humour. It’s very Buy Levitra Online much a joke driven set, interspersed with double-bass pluckings, that has some hits and some misses.
