Pioneering math-metallers The Dillinger Escape Plan return to the UK this Autumn, stopping off on October 27th in Southampton, and those familiar with the band know to expect chaos on a grand scale. For those that aren’t in the loop though, bassist Liam Wilson took time out to answer a few questions on what it’s like being in what certain circles call ‘the world’s most dangerous avapro band’, how the music industry is changing, and how to defeat terrorism.
You’re being supported by Rolo Tomassi on this tour, who’ve become pretty popular in the past year or so, what’s your take on the current UK music scene?
To be completely honest, I don’t really feel like I can give a balanced opinion based on the fact that outside of our tours, I haven’t experienced much of the UK music scene inside the UK so much as I have in the US. We toured with Bring Me The Horizon on Warped Tour this year, and I know Gallows did it the summer prior, as well as dates with AFI. Much beyond those two bands, and Rolo Tomassi, I don’t have too much on my radar at the moment. Our festival appearances are consistently memorable, and always well-received by the media…If I had to take inventory on the whole scene and describe it in one word, I’d simply state that it feels ‘solid’ or perhaps ‘ripe’.
As a band who clearly have a wide range of influences, are there any British bands who’ve played a part in moulding your sound?
This Heat, Radiohead, Led Zepplin, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Queen and the Rolling Stones have all had a pretty significant impact on me personally… I think their influences are somewhat universal, and exist without disclaimers or explanations. Order Doxycycline
Has touring become harder for you now you’ve pretty much gone down the DIY route as a band?
Everything is harder for having taken the path we chose, but it seems the harder Vardenafilo levitra we work, the greater and more personally satisfying the rewards become. If there’s something we can’t do ourselves, we at least have the creative freedom to figure out who can and choose to use them or not. Florida codes bank In the early days of touring, I tried to fit the band and its schedule into my life, and over the years I’ve learned to centralize the band and organize the rest of my life around it, and that has made all the difference.
The internet’s becoming increasingly important in the music business, with sites like twitter and facebook removing barriers between fans and artists, and downloading having an effect on sales and such like; do you think it’s important for bands to have a real online presence with their fans ?
This has become one of the underlying themes behind the concept for “Option Paralysis” and specifically songs like ‘Good Neighbor’ and ‘Room Full Of Eyes’. When we were growing up, the distance between the fans and the performers was practically unbreachable and nowadays, at least digitally, fans take your ‘friendship’ seriously. It’s a slippery slope, if I have a profile, and I chose to decline a friend request from a fan, for example, at best my privacy is respected, and at worst I’m pegged as some sort of stuck-up or egotistical artist when 10 years ago, meeting and ‘befriending’ an artist was privelege of the die-hard (or hyper-aggressive) fans.
I also think the positive flip-side to all of that is when I connect with a fan who I feel really does “get it” and through a few written conversations opens my eyes, ears etc. Cheap Levitra online to something they felt may spark my interest based on other listed ‘interests’ – for the few (and unfortunately far between) times that has happened, I think it is important to maintain a certain sense of accessibility in this day and age, otherwise, I think we’d be working counter-intuitively to the flow of modern culture, especially considering most musical discoveries, purchases and cross-pollination happens online. Live, you’re renowned for putting on a very physical show; but with such technical intricate songs, how do you find the balance between ‘putting on a show’ and delivering the music?
The balance of each song’s nature usually finds us in its own unique way once Viagra Soft Tabs Online we start performing it live. Certain songs at certain times demand more attention to details, while other songs naturally feel better when we let the performance and general vibe of each individual show dictate its relative size and shape. Although there is something to be said for the musicality of hearing a variety of languages throughout mainland Europe and beyond, there’s something warm and comforting to being able to speak and listen without any sort of hesitation and still enjoy the unique dialects around the UK. We’ve been expanding our lighting production and we experiemented with some other things at the beginning of this tour that currently seem a little out of place, or distracting to the ebb and flow of the set we’re running so we took them out or rearranged them… Maybe by the time we get there, things will find their niche, but more than likely we’re focusing on the main entrees more than the menu sides on this tour. buy drugs online
