Review: Sonisphere (Day Three)

words and photos by Kyle Bunkin

Sunday morning is quite clearly alive with the buzz of “what the hell just happened?”, a question that can only really be directed towards Rammstein and their nine HGV’s of seemingly weapons grade plutonium.

It seems funny that the calming element of my money comes from ex-Black Flag front man Henry Rollins and his spoken word routine. This is an angry man with a point, whilst not strictly a comedy act, it’s still very humorous, there’s no “D’ya know what I hate about airline food?”, but plenty of sticking it to the man. The general message of stick up for what you know is right and be cool to each other is a lesson a lot of people could do with learning. Buy antibiotics online without prescription. Over on the Apollo stage, Australian post metal/rock/pop act Karnivool are playing to a massive crowd which is a step up from the Southampton Joiners a mere couple of months ago. It’s a solid, well performed set and hopefully the start of a continuously great career for them.

CKY meanwhile show that perhaps they should stick to the videos rather than the music as it seems the only good song they had was the infamous Hellview 96 which seems a little lacklustre to watch.

Back on the big stage Karnivool’s touring partners Skindred are warming the crowd up and although they offer the same sort of spiel between songs as they do on their tours, their festival set is electric and is the first time the crowd have seemed really in to it so early in the day.

A bizarre choice on the 2009 line up was the addition of Bjorn Again – an ABBA tribute band. While at the time it seemed like a monumental booking fail, it was actually hilarious and had one of the biggest mosh pits of the day. Florida codes bank This year the organisers have tried to emulate it with The Fab Beatles, which is exactly what it says on the tin, minus the fab part. Order Doxycycline It’s just a cover band. It seems a bit of a lazy cheat.

With Slayer imminent, the crowd’s warmed up and the obligatory “don’t kill Buy Viagra Online each other” message has been relayed to the crowd. It’s a stormer of set, but not the best time the band have played. South of Heaven and Raining Blood obviously go down a treat and with Dave Lombardo on drums it’s got the most brutal rhythm section of the weekend, however the band don’t click Kamagra as much as they should and perhaps it was a little quiet, but still, Slayer undeniably wave the thrash banner high and proud.

Alice in Chains is a near biblical experience and make a welcome return. It’s a great set of new material such as Check My Brain and Your Decision but they really shine with the material from Dirt, like Them Bones and Would?. Closing track Rooster is a beautiful moment and really proves that carrying on after Layne Staley’s death with new vocalist William DuVall was not insanity, but a brilliant move. Cheap Levitra online It’s an old record that really doesn’t need replaying, but DuVall’s vocals are eerily spot on and it’ s hard to fault them. Levitra reviews

In the Bohemia tent Converge are taking to the stage and they shred through a set of mostly new material from Axe to Fall. Having seen them recently, it was great to see them again with a huge crowd. They’re not hardcore, they’re not metal or even metalcore, but they’re damn heavy and they’re near enough untouchable for performance. Front m an J Vardenafilo levitra acob Bannon leaps around the stage like a man possessed, commanding the pit at the front. With closer The Broken Vow from their seminal record Jane Doe, it’s a mass of flailing arms and imaginary motor bike revving. Completely crushing.

Iggy and the Stooges are on the Saturn stage and if he hasn’t sold you insurance, you probably need it as at the ripe age of 63, the man is a complete whirling dervish and a complete liability to anyone in close proximity. Levitra generico I hope to God that at that age I have a) a body that’s even half as good as his and b) actually alive still. With a set of big songs mostly from 1973 album Raw Power, it’s great to see something that energetic and to see a new generation – especially one that might only recognise the Iguana from a certain advert – lap it up en masse. As Henry Rollins had said earlier in the day, the true king of rock and roll is not Elvis, it’s a certain Iggy Pop.

On the same stage the real surprise for me came from Funeral For a Friend who to me have slowly drifted in to the middle of the road with songs that wouldn’t seem out of place on Radio 2, however on this occasion they forgo most new material and hark back to the classics and even stuff from their Four (and Seven) Ways to Scream Your Name EP. buy drugs online It’s guitarist Darren Smith’s last day on the job and it’s a total party to mark the end of the era.

Back on the Apollo stage, Iron Maiden are taking the stage. I’d expect fl ack for s Zithromax pharmacyaying it but they unleashed perhaps the most underwhelming performance of the weekend, a mere six classics and ten new songs off of a brand new album. That’s not a festival set, that’s a touring set. Unfortunately I was outnumbered about 54,999 to 1 with Maiden fans so Buy Viagra Online Pharmacy No Prescription Needed I can’t argue (I can now with near anonymity on the internet). They’re a solid band and you’ve got to respect where they’ve come from and what it’s bought to metal, but it seems a little disappointing, especially after the excellent show Rammstein put Buy Brand Cialis Online Pharmacy No Prescription Needed on the night prior.

So that’s it for another year and it’s gone down extremely well, especially considering what a logistical nightmare a touring festival is. For me, with another year under it’s belt, the thunder that Download commands might locate itself somewhere over Stevenage and good luck to them. A big thanks to The Noise Cartel and Kilimanjaro for having us!
