Review: SixNationState @ The Birdcage

by Jools Mearn

It was quiet when I arrived at the Birdcage to watch a gig I was pretty darn excited about being at (especially as I only found out it was happening when a flyer was put in my hand that very afternoon)
‘SixNationState at The Birdcage!’ I thought.
‘Where the hell’s The Birdcage?’ I further note.

Perhaps I should’ve realised my early worries – of a) how did I not know this gig was happening and, b) why am I not fully aware of where this venue is – processed them and taken it as a sign of things to come, but, no, my excitement for seeing 6NS again blinded what should have been my better judgement.

Now don’t get me wrong there are a lot of good things to be said:

The venue is great. Real ground roots feel to it. Nice stage, good sound and some nice touches (I especially liked the actual Buy Plavix Online birdcage that hangs at the back of the room): positive number 1.
Some of the music played during the hour I sat waiting for the first band to come on was really good. I think I may’ve annoyed the man tinkering with his laptop due to the words ‘excuse me, who is this?’ several times. He didn’t seem to mind though, so there’s positive number 2. buy drugs online
Positive number 3 were opening act, The Missiles – although on completely the wrong bill (if you have a rock night you need a slot filling – then book these guys asap) – have all the right ingredients to make a truly great rock band: a front man who sold his soul to the Devil in exchange to play demon guitar; a hot female bass player and a drummer who LOVES his cymbals. Personally, I loved them. Turning a negative into a positive – just to break things up a bit – due to the inexplicably small crowd, it was very easy to buy a drink and the girl behind the bar was ever so nice to talk to, so there’s another ticked box in the ‘thumbs up’ section!

The last positive comes in the shape of SixNationState. But, we’ll come to them in a minute as in between The Missiles and SixNation came Lucifer’s Gold, a band I’d seen once before at The Cellars and quite enjoyed. Levitra reviews Well not this time. Levitra generico

One song in and they stopped to tune up for ten minutes. Cheap Levitra online The third song ended in meltdown and the majority of their set was all over the place. I’ll put it down to a bad day and give them the benefit of the doubt, as their take on the indie/rock/pop genre has a few nice little twists and hooks that draw you in to want to hear more (I mainly got this feeling at The Cellars gig, though). Good front man too. I’m informed his name is Rossco and I was told to write in this review that he ‘needs to get a bit of colour in his cheeks as he was the only person in the room without a banging suntan’.

Which brings me to the next postive: that was one very sexy crowd of people in there. Boys and girls. Wow.

Annnnnyway, things started to get a bit flat after Lucifer’s Gold and the crowd – as hot and small as it was – was developing an undertone I didn’t like.

That feeling quickly disappeared when SixNationState took to the stage they were about to own.
The lack of numbers in the room didn’t seem to phase them at all, as they majestically made their way through a set made up of some classic tunes from their first album – that I’ve come to know, love and dance around my house to on an almost daily basis – and the new songs I was dying to hear live. Disappoint they did not.
The four piece SixNationState is a good as the five toge Vardenafilo levitra ther were. Gerry’s voice is as strong as ever and the band so tight they’re virginal. Buy Brand Cialis Online Pharmacy No Prescription Needed Buy cozaar They had their audience singing, dancing and probably could have had them eating out of the palm of their hands, until all hell broke loose and my evening’s attempt at enjoyment ended. To the wankers who decided to begin the giant brawl that ensued, you are not wanted at music events.
Well, I don’t want them anway and these people ruined the end of what could’ve been a perfect set.

In summary: a highly unprofessional gig that had its moments, most of which fell to the headliners, from London, themselves.
