Review: Failures’ Union @ The Fat Fox

by Chris Hilson

I’m all for gruff vocals in punk music, when it comes naturally to a singer it can really help to convey the emotion and honesty behind a song. This is an approach taken by one-man acoustic act James Hunt. Being the sole focus of the audience, on such a strong line-up can’t be easy, so it should be credit to his ability that he’s on the bill. Zithromax pharmacy Unfortunately, the aforementioned gruff vocals aren’t sung so much as shouted very loudly, and at times, very out of tune into the microphone, making the lyrics incomprehensible. The guitar playing was competent but not overly imaginative and the songs as a whole were fairly typical of the acoustic punk sub-genre but without the imagination needed to stand out. Order Doxycycline I do feel slightly bad for him when he leaves the stage as he’ s clearly a very nice guy and he did Florida codes bank show hints of ability. Fellow Isle of Wighters ‘New Set Of Bruises’ play a brand of melodic punk that isn’t too dissimilar to frontman Nij’s former band, ‘Blocko’. Influenced by the likes of Samiam, Hot Water Music and Texas Is The Reason, they take the melodies and song structures of these bands and put their own touch on proceedings. A lot of the songs have a sense amoxil buy of urgency about them and the vocals are complemented brilliantly by the driving riffs, and the band are as musically tight as is to be expected given their past Buy Viagra Super Active+ Online careers. New songs get an airing alongside old favourites and tonight’s set is typical of the No Idea Records sound for which the band are known. Jack and Bailey trade vocals, and Greg doesn’t miss a beat on the drums. It’s not the best set I’ve seen them play, but it’s great to see them back and they get one of the best reactions of the night. Play ‘Cider Justice’ next time though, yeah Vardenafilo levitra ?

The energy on display belies the laid back pace of their songs, with ‘Anodyne’ and ‘Astro City’ being personal set highlights. Buy antibiotics online without prescription. Online Drugstore. On the back of this performance they’ll hopefully be back sooner rather than later.

Unfortunately I wasn’t born in the right time or place to have experienced the college rock of America first hand, but I sure wish I was. From bands such as ‘Dinosaur Jr’ and ‘The Replacements’ through to ‘Gin Blossoms’ and ‘Gameface’ it’s a genre I’ve fallen in love with. It was with this in mind that I was looking forward to seeing tonight’s headliners, American band ‘Failures’ Union’. Some bands end up sounding like a poor imitation of their chosen genre when they display their influences so clearly, but not ‘Failures’ Union’. With a sound unashamedly inspired by those bands and many more it was a set full of gentle melodies, introspective lyrics and restrained passion, epitomised by the laidback ‘Glasses’ and the upbeat ‘Cubist Camo’. It was a brilliant and special set enjoyed not only by the criminally small crowd but also by the band themselves.
